This post is a call to all Southern California readers with any type of cancer at any stage to join me as we Rest, Relax & Renew (the working subtitle for my new nonfiction book). Whether you are receiving treatments, maintaining remission, or living with chronic cancer, this special workshop for those affected by cancer is designed for you.

I will lead participants through yoga poses (asanas), breath work (pranayama), and meditation with pauses for sharing and journaling reflections during this two-hour session at Claremont Yoga on Sunday, May 1, noon to 2:00.

As an experienced yoga teacher and practitioner in remission from leukemia as well as a writer, I have several goals for this workshop. I will focus on making you feel more grounded and comfortable in your changing or changed body through gentle yoga postures. I intend to encourage you to share your cancer background with others so you may learn how you can own your story. And with the aid of  contemplative prompts, I want to assist you in writing your way through moments on your cancer journey.

This workshop is suitable for those affected by any type of cancer at any stage who can move independently, who feel comfortable sharing in a group setting, and who have healed from all procedures (please have your doctor’s permission to participate).

Rental mats are available but I recommend you bring your own yoga mat to minimize exposure to germs. Please wear layers and comfortable clothes in which you can move freely.

Here are some of the potential benefits of the workshop:

  • Decrease stress and pain
  • Increase well-being
  • Improve quality and quantity of sleep
  • Enjoy camaraderie with others
  • Soothe anxiety
  • Become more grounded
  • Feel comfortable in your body, mind, and spirit

Come join me for this new adventure by signing up through the Claremont Yoga website. If you have questions about the workshop, please contact me: info@ErinMichaelaSweeney.com.
